Wild Seed Collection Workshop

Saturday, October 11 @ 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm
Free
wild seed collection workshop

Teatown’s Science & Stewardship Department is honored to host Lindsey Feinberg, Native Plants Curator for Westchester County Parks, in this hands-on workshop!

You will learn to sustainably collect seeds from native plants without harming wild populations. We will cover techniques researched by scientists and outlined in the Bureau of Land Management’s National Seed Strategy.

In the first section we will cover how wild seed is used for banking and restoration. The rest of the class will be spent in the field. We will review how to use field guides to properly identify species, examine plant populations, and determine whether a population is suitable for collection. We will check seed for ripeness, perform a cut test, and fill out a data sheet to record important information for future collections.

This event takes place outside at Cliffdale Farm. Please visit the Cliffdale Farm page for directions.
