The third annual EagleFest photography competition is in honor and memory of Ed Mertz, a Croton-on-Hudson resident, long-time Teatown supporter, and well-known bird and nature photographer.

The jury for the photography competition includes:

  • Bill Graham, long-time national and international birding photographer and Zeiss Sports Optics representative
  • Lisa Kelly, Teatown’s Animal Care Supervisor and expert raptor handler
  • Owen Leggio, a Hudson Valley native and passionate wildlife photographer. As both photographer and wildlife observer, Owen spends the majority of his time capturing images both locally and abroad. With a keen interest in birds, Owen’s focus is on showing the diversity of the natural and avian worlds through his photos. View his work here.

Submit your best shots of raptors or birds of prey for consideration! Submissions are not limited to Westchester County.

The contest begins on Sunday, January 1, 2023. All entries must be submitted by e-mail to with “EagleFest 2023 Photography Competition Submission” in the Subject line and must be received by 11:59pm ET on Tuesday, January 24, 2023.

Winners will be announced live on Saturday, February 4 at EagleFest and announced on our social media channels.

First-place, second-place, and third-place winners will receive Zeiss Sports Optics binoculars, and a fourth-place runner-up will receive a gift card.
