Gardening for Butterflies and Nature
Join the Westchester–Putnam Chapter of the North American Butterfly Association for a winter evening exploring the deep connections between native plants, ecological landscapes, and butterflies. All are welcome—from curious beginners to seasoned butterfliers.
Our February guest speaker is Eva Thaddeus. Eva is a native New Yorker who, in spite of (or maybe because of) growing up in Manhattan has always been a passionate gardener and naturalist. After a 20-year career as a public school teacher in New Mexico, and four years as an environmental educator at Teatown Preserve, she opened Wild Gardens Nursery, a native plant nursery for home gardeners in Cortlandt Manor. Her ongoing investigation of ecological landscape design has included studies at the New York Botanical Garden and New Directions in the American Landscape. She is a member of the Local 59 network, a group focused on the collection and production of seed and plants from Ecoregion 59 (ours!)
Come for practical insights, local inspiration, and thoughtful discussion about how native plants support butterflies and other wildlife right where we live. We’ll also plant milkweed seeds to take home for your own garden.
Refreshments will be served.
