Construction Begins on Teatown’s New Education Center

An exciting new chapter of Teatown’s campus transformation is underway: construction has begun at the site of our new Education Center.

This milestone has been years in the making. Teatown’s campus transformation will create a more accessible, sustainable, and welcoming campus for the students, families, campers, hikers, and community members who learn and explore here each year.

The start of work at the Education Center site was delayed while the project moved through necessary permitting steps. In the meantime, construction crews focused on the renovation of the Nature Center, where tremendous progress has already been made inside and out.

Now, work has begun to turn toward the new Education Center. Crews have been drilling and grouting rock anchors, completing rock hammering for footings, and beginning foundation work. In the coming weeks, work is expected to continue with concrete footings, foundation walls, anchor plates, and anchor bolts as the new building begins to take shape.

Across campus, progress continues at the Nature Center as well. Exterior stucco work is underway, deck piers and framing are moving forward, and new mechanical systems are being installed. Inside, crews are working on painting, tile, lighting, stairs, millwork, flooring, plumbing fixtures, doors, and other finishing details.

The Education Center will become a major new home for learning at Teatown, with indoor and outdoor teaching spaces, accessible classrooms, direct bus access from Blinn Road, and a rooftop garden that will expand opportunities for immersive environmental education.

It is one part of a larger transformation across campus. Alongside this new building, Teatown’s historic Nature Center is being fully renovated to better serve visitors, staff, and Animal Ambassadors. Campus-wide improvements will also make Teatown more accessible, more pedestrian-friendly, and more ecologically vibrant.

While construction is moving forward, our work is not finished yet.

Teatown is now in the final, community-powered stage of our campaign. This phase will help complete the exhibits, nature playscape, animal ambassador enclosures, hands-on learning spaces, and other essential elements that will bring the renewed campus to life.

These are the spaces where discovery happens: where a child meets an Animal Ambassador, where a camper asks a new question, where families explore together, and where future environmental stewards begin building a lifelong relationship with the natural world.

Please consider making a gift through Teatown’s Givebutter campaign and help us cross the finish line.

Every gift matters.

Join the Community Campaign

The walls are going up, but there is still more work to do before Teatown’s transformed campus is complete.

We are now in the final community stage of the campaign, inviting everyone who loves Teatown to help bring the project across the finish line. Gifts will support the final phase of the transformation, including engaging exhibits, hands-on learning spaces, new animal ambassador enclosures, the outdoor nature playscape, and other finishing touches needed to bring the campus fully to life.

A gift of any size will help Teatown complete this transformation and create a more welcoming, accessible, and inspiring place for children, families, students, and nature lovers.
