The nature-art captured in this exhibit will further inspire the visitor to see the beauty of the Hudson Valley through a new artistic lens. \nNature Girls is an education program developed by Teatown that encourages girls to get out into nature\, develop an interest for natural science\, as well as self-confidence and cooperation. For the past six years\, by invitation\, Hudson Valley-based Strawtown Studio artists/educators have been collaborating with Teatown to bring their nature-art education specialty to the “Nature Girls.” Primarily for 5th graders\, the experiences featured in the exhibit include school-yard\, park\, and river exploration on the shores of the Hudson at the Kathryn W. Davis RiverWalk Center in Sleepy Hollow. \nStrawtown Studio is a place-based\, art and nature not-for-profit organization which provides programs for young people to experience creativity\, skill-building\, and shared outdoor exploration. \nFor everyone. DESCRIPTION:The Monitoring and Managing Ash (MaMA) program provides constructive actions for each stage of Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) invasion\, ranging from pre-invasion to when virtually all an area’s ash have been killed by this invasive beetle. In this free workshop\, you’ll learn how to recognize EAB’s signs and mitigate damage\, how to manage ash\, how to participate in MaMA’s citizen-science projects for ash conservation\, and how resistance breeding offers hope for ash’s future. In the MaMA framework\, it’s never too late or too early to take steps for ash conservation. \nPart 1 (1:00-2:15): How to recognize the signs of EAB\, considerations for treating or cutting ash\, and why leaving some live ash standing is important for ash conservation.
