SUMMARY:"Plants in Our Daily Lives" Artist Reception
DESCRIPTION:Some admired and some unnoticed\, plant life permeates our lives with its beauty and importance.\nYou may think there is nothing much to the plants and trees that are around us every day\, but they are vital for life and our long-term survival. Plants are an essential resource – we rely on them for food\, water\, medicine\, the air we breathe\, habitat\, our climate and more. \nThe intention of this exhibition is to bring awareness to the necessity of plants in our daily lives. The botanical art on exhibit examines some of the plants we depend on almost daily. The beautiful\, exquisitely detailed botanical watercolor paintings and drawings remind us of the importance of stewardship in preserving our natural environments to reduce the pollution of air\, water\, and soil. \n\n\nThe participating local artists studying with Corinne Lapin-Cohen at StoneHouse Studio in Katonah\, NY are Lenore Adams\, Ann Goodman\, Rochelle Auslander\, Gloria Gorell\, Phyllis Chadwick\, Norma Kurman\, and Yona Shilling. The artwork of Corinne Lapin-Cohen will also be on exhibit. We thank Teatown for the wonderful exhibition space in which to deliver our message through art. We are proud to be part of the Address: Earth project being held at several locations throughout the Hudson Valley this summer conceived and curated by Bibiana Huang Matheis. \nClick here for more information and artist bios

SUMMARY:Eel Project Information Session
DESCRIPTION:UPDATE: Due to the weather forecast\, this event will be held virtually. If you have already registered\, you will receive the Zoom link by e-mail on Friday\, 3/11. Registration for new participants is now closed.\nAmerican eels are migratory fish that are hatched in the Atlantic Ocean and enter rivers as tiny “glass eels” each spring.  The species is in decline over much of its range\, and baseline studies are needed for conservation.  Teams of citizen scientists collect glass eels using nets and traps in Hudson River tributaries from Staten Island to Troy.\nDEC educators will explain how juvenile fish are counted\, weighed and released to better upstream habitats\, often above dams\, and how you can help protect this critical species by joining the Eel Project as a volunteer. \nThe program will take place at Teatown followed by an optional trip to Furnace Brook eel site for hands-on training. \nQuestions? – Contact Marie Roche mroche@teatown.org \n20 person maximum \nTeatown has updated its COVID protocols. Masks are now optional\, but still encouraged\, while inside the Visitor Center. We continue to follow current county\, state\, and CDC guidelines. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nREGISTER

SUMMARY:Art Reception: From Tuscany to Teatown
DESCRIPTION:In her artist’s statement\, Rosemary says: “This exhibit showcases my landscape work in oil\, initially inspired by my travels in Tuscany in 2017. Since then\, I have walked the Teatown trails and explored many of the nearby historic Hudson Valley sites throughout the four seasons. The painted landscapes in this show attempt to capture and celebrate that experience and the memory of those special places\, reflecting their beauty and wonder. Painting landscapes\, en plein air and in the studio\, before and especially during the Time of Covid\, has been and continues to be a source of sanctuary\, community\, and joy.”  \nRead more about Rosemary and her work here. \nMasks are optional\, but encouraged\, inside the Visitor Center.
