SUMMARY:Hike & Learn: The Connections Between Forest Health and Watershed Protection
DESCRIPTION:Join Hudson River Sloop Clearwater for a two-hour hike at Teatown Lake Reservation Nature Preserve to see examples of watershed protective management practices and learn about watershed protection. The program will feature Emily Edmonds-Langham from Teatown\, and Tyler Van Fleet and Jessica Alba from the Watershed Agricultural Council who\, throughout the walk\, will explore the connections between forest health and watershed protection. Trees and forests are critical to healthy watersheds as they provide important functions including filtering rainwater and runoff and preventing erosion. \nPlease remember to dress for the weather and wear sturdy walking shoes or boots. Due to the presence of ticks\, we recommend that you wear long\, light-colored pants and socks. We also suggest bringing a hat\, sunscreen\, and a full reusable water bottle. Parking is available on site – please note\, for non-Teatown members\, the cost of parking is $7. \nA note on hike difficulty\, trails at Teatown can range from easy to moderate\, including uneven terrain. The program will require walking/standing for 2 hours. \nWith questions about this hike or general inquiries about this hike or the Hike and Learn program more broadly\, e-mail Jen Benson at jen@clearwater.org. \nHudson River Sloop Clearwater’s Hike and Learn program seeks to bring together Hudson River experts (scientists\, advocates\, planners\, etc) and community members for formal and informal conversations about the science\, history\, and future of the Hudson River. \nThis program is sponsored by the Maurice D. Hinchey Hudson River Valley National Heritage Area. Learn more about the Maurice D. Hinchey Hudson River Valley National Heritage Area at www.hudsonrivervalley.com. \n\n\nRegister

SUMMARY:Wildflower Island Guide Info Session
DESCRIPTION:Do green and growing things fill your heart with joy? Are you curious about the natural world and eager to share that curiosity with the public? You might be a good fit for the Wildflower Island Guide program. Meet with Wildflower Island Curator Mathew McDowell to learn more. Mathew will share about the history of the Island\, as well as review the training and commitment involved in joining the Wildflower Island team. \nWildflower Island Guides lead small group tours of this two-acre treasure. Our first guide meeting will take place in late April\, and we’d love to add to our ranks. After the kickoff meeting\, the Wildflower Island Guides meet monthly on Sunday mornings through September for additional training. Novice guides also work one-on-one with a mentor. Requires a commitment of at least 6 tours per season (April through September) or to work the equivalent hours on Wildflower Island. \nFree \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRegister
