
Stewardship Internship Description
The stewardship intern is an unpaid position within the Stewardship department at Teatown Lake Reservation. Stewardship interns learn skills in ecological research, land management, and trail construction and maintenance.
Time Commitment: This is a seasonal position. Interns can apply for the spring (March-May) or summer (June-August) seasons.
Qualifications:
To qualify for a stewardship intern position, candidates must:
- Have their own transportation to and from Teatown
- Be at least a junior in high school or a high school graduate
- Be able to commit to at least 8 hours a week
- Be able to work those 8 hours within the hours of 9 - 5 Monday through Friday.
- Have interest in and experience with science research.
- Have an interest in nature or environmental issues.
- Be able to work independently.
- Be self-motivated and organized.
- Be willing to work outdoors in all seasons and be willing to get dirty at times.
- Have an interest in continuing in the environmental field after the internship is over.
Internship Description:
The job responsibilities of the Stewardship Intern at Teatown are:
- Assist with data collection and entry for ongoing research projects at Teatown.
- Assist with the care and maintenance of Teatown’s hiking trails.
- Work on one independent project, decided by the intern and stewardship staff that will contribute to Teatown’s research program or trails program.
- Organizing, cleaning, and maintaining Teatown’s stewardship tools and facilities.
- Other duties as assigned
