Education Internship Description

The education internship is an unpaid position within the Education department at Teatown Lake Reservation. Education interns learn skills in environmental education and interpretation.

Time Commitment: This is a seasonal or yearly position. Interns can apply for the fall (Sept-Dec) or spring (Feb-May), as well as the whole year. We do not have intern positions available in the summer.

Qualifications:
To qualify for an education intern position, candidates must:

  • Have their own transportation to and from Teatown
  • Be a senior in high school or a high school graduate
  • Be able to commit to at least 8 hours a week
  • Be able to work those 8 hours within the hours of 9 - 5 Tuesday through Friday.
  • Have interest in and experience with working with children.
  • Have an interest in nature or environmental issues.
  • Be able to work independently.
  • Be self-motivated and organized.
  • Be willing to work outdoors in all seasons and be willing to get dirty at times.
  • Have an interest in continuing to be involved in the Teatown community after their internship is over.

Internship Description:
The job responsibilities of the Education Intern at Teatown are:

  • Observe and assist with at least 2 educational programs a week until they feel comfortable enough to teach them on their own
  • Researching various environmental topics in preparation for their teaching experiences
  • Work on one special project, decided by the intern and education staff, that will help educate about an environmental issue.
  • Assist the education staff in preparation for and participation in special events and seasonal activities, including the Plant
  • Sale, sugaring season, EagleFest, and summer camp preparation.
  • Organizing, cleaning, and maintaining Teatown’s educational tools and facilities.
  • Other duties as assigned
