Volunteer Spotlight: Thank You!
Pat Burnett was ready for a change following retirement from a 33-year career as a mathematics teacher in Yonkers, which ulminated in her position as head of the math department at Roosevelt High School. Pat wanted an opportunity to use her administrative skills in a different capacity from working with students, and, in February of 2001, she began as an administrative and office volunteer at Teatown. Although her volunteer time evolved into an administrative assistant position on staff, Pat decided she’d rather ontinue as a volunteer and enjoy more personal time in her retirement. But, since that point, Pat has been an invaluable volunteer both in the office and at special events.
Pat has been trained to use our database to enter and organize volunteer contact time, which is very important to Teatown when recognizing our volunteers and applying for grant funding. Pat has increased her knowledge as a volunteer to the point that she has attended training sessions with staff and trained several new staff herself on the ins and outs of our database.
Pat’s next adventure involves a big move down to North Carolina. In the midst of the craziness of packing and securing her new home, Pat was able to reflect on her years of volunteer service at Teatown. “The best part about it was being able to participate in the Teatown community. It’s more than just networking or socializing. I enjoy being able to fully relate with the staff, members and the public to spread the appreciation of what Teatown does for the community. Our community, especially in today’s circumstances, should value Teatown’s resources as much as possible.” To have such a dedicated volunteer who truly feels the importance of Teatown’s mission is a great gift.
The staff at Teatown clearly agrees on one thing: We always appreciate how thoroughly and completely Pat does her job. But Pat is much more than a good volunteer to us--she is part of the Teatown family, and we will miss her!
