The Gerard and Marjorie Swope Planned Giving Society
Remembering Teatown in your plans
The Gerard and Marjorie Swope Planned Giving Society honor individuals who remember Teatown with planned gifts. You can make a lasting difference when it comes to land protection and conservancy in the Hudson Hills and Highlands. By including us in your will or trust, you can help instill in future generations a love for their local environment and teach them how to be responsible for its care and maintenance.

What is a bequest?
A bequest is a meaningful way to make a gift to Teatown. It can be a simple as adding a codicil to your will providing for the bequest in the form of a specific dollar amount, real or personal property, or a percentage of your estate. Your attorney can help you prepare the appropriate documents.
A bequest may be large or small, restricted or unrestricted. A general-purpose bequest in your will or trust is most valuable to Teatown as it allows us the greatest flexibility to use your gift where it is needed most. You may designate either a fixed dollar amount, a percentage of your estate or a particular asset such as real estate. A bequest to Teatown may be established in the name of a family member, relative, friend, or colleague, carrying in perpetuity the name of the donor.
Why Teatown?
Through a bequest, you can have a direct impact on Teatown’s future and enjoy the benefits of charitable giving; remember, charitable gifts from your taxable estate are 100 percent deductible under current law. Bequests are often the most realistic way for many donors to leave a legacy for succeeding generations.
Do I need to specify where I want my funds to go?
If you have a specific area you have an association, or special appreciation for, you can have your funds allocated for that. If you do not, there is a general unrestricted fund category, which it will go into.
How do I join the Society?
Please call Anne Bishop, Director of Development at 914-762-2912 ext. 113. While it is not necessary for you to inform us of the details of your estate gift, it is helpful for future Teatown planning.
If you or your financial advisor would like information on naming Teatown in your will or other planned giving opportunities, please contact Diane DiVernieri at 914-762-2912, ext. 118 or email her at ddivernieri@teawon.org.
